About

Hello and welcome to Great, Big, Beautiful Grief.

If there is one thing I have learned about life, it is that loss is simply a part of the journey.  We will all eventually leave this earth, just like we will all experience loss at some point; a friend, a family member, a pet, a relationship, a job.  These can all be incredibly tragic and have the ability to throw our lives out of balance.  And that is okay…for a while.

BUT – How do we come back to life after loss?

That is what we will be discovering together in this blog.  I want to share the strategies and tools that have allowed me to accept the great loss in my life, and that have allowed me to go on living my best life possible.

So yes, while this blog was born out of loss, it is not necessarily about death.  Instead, it is a passion that has been building in my core for years, ready to explode; it is my hope to convey to the world that, through the grieving process, we can rebuild and reshape our lives.  We will have How-To’s, inspirational stories and interviews, life-hacks, and so much more.

Death, in particular, has been my greatest teacher.  It has taught me how to love fiercely, how to live each and every moment to its absolute fullest, how to weed out the negatives and create positives, but, most importantly, it has taught me how to actually live.  In many ways, learning to deal with loss is a tremendous gift.  Those of us who have experienced it have a renewed sense of what it means to life a full, meaningful life.

There is an old saying that goes, “You only live once.”

I disagree.

You only die once.  You live everyday.

ABOUT YOUR AUTHOR:

I’m Mary Beth.  I’m a mother to a beautiful, young boy, wife to the greatest man alive, daughter, sister and friend.  As a California native, I have now lived in Minnesota since 2013 and have loved almost every minute of it (winters can throw one for a loop, but that’s why there are airplanes, right?).

After earning my bachelors in Human Communications from CSU Monterey Bay, I have had the opportunity to explore a number of different career paths; public relations, massage therapy, marketing, and early childhood development.  I now work as a Realtor in the Twin Cities West Metro and am also a freelance writer in my spare time.  I have been writing for years and have had work published in MN Parent Magazine, as well as on The Adventure Mamas Initiative and Hike it Baby Websites.

Writing has always been my go-to outlet, my path to help, inspire and create.  While I have primarily focused on parenting, the outdoors and, of course, real estate, I have recently experienced a couple of profound losses for the first time in my life.  These losses have changed my life.  While they were tragic and unspeakably difficult, they have completely altered the course of mine and my family’s lives.  We have made significant changes for the better stemming from these losses, and I feel our experience could benefit many in our position.

I am so excited to tell you all about My Great, Big, Beautiful Grief and how it has brought meaning back into my life!  Thank you for stopping by!
